Doctoral Programs
In recent years, the Department of Economics has organised itself in such a way as to become a centre of excellence for the training of young economists and applied mathematicians; it is particularly demanding in the use of mathematical models and is also keen to use these models to solve practical problems. The first doctoral student year-groups completed their training in 1993. The warm reception given to those who decided to carry on their work in universities as well as those who chose careers as experts in companies is evidence of the quality of the training given in the laboratory. The department takes doctoral students from the four Master's programs with which it is associated and occasionally doctoral students from other programs. Registration for a thesis at École Polytechnique is overseen by the specialities committee set up by the École Polytechnique third-year management department.
